DUEL
OBJECTIVE
Gladiator and contender are stood on opposite podiums, which are 1.1m in diameter, armed with pugil sticks 41cm apart. On the whistle both competitors must try and hit each other from the podium to the crash mats below.
FACTS
Duel appeared in every Domestic and International Series (although only the men played it in the 1997, Series 6, Final).
Duel was the final Event to be played in six of the Domestic Finals, and it was the last Event to ever be played in Gladiators in 1999 (Series 8).
Over the first few Series, the Duel platforms were brought closer together for more fierce battles.
In 1997 (Series 6), a re-match was required as both Gladiator and Contender fell off the platform at exactly the same time.
In 1997 (Series 6), Duel was often played as a split Event, however this practice was discontinued in 1998 (Series 7) and 1999 (Series 8).
A Contender loss in this Event would be accompanied by 'Another One Bites The Dust.' by Queen.
