Siren, Ali Paton

INTRODUCTION

Paul from the Gladiators Zone spoke exclusively to UK Gladiator Siren, Ali Paton. We talked about her memories with the Gladiators show and how being a basketball player helped her in the show...

INTERVIEW

Q: "Which Events did you enjoy playing the most and the least?"

Siren Interview

Siren: "I love playing Powerball, Pyramid and Vertigo. I found Hang Tough the hardest but I enjoyed it. My least favourite were The Wall and Whiplash."

Q: "If you could pick two other female Gladiators to be on your Powerball team?"

Siren Interview

Siren: "For Powerball I'd probably play with Rocket and Rebel or Fox because these are the girls I've practised with and they were good!!"

Q: "Which of the Gladiators do you regard as the Ultimate?"

Siren Interview

Siren: "In terms of mastering the games, Hunter and Lightning were untouchable in my opinion."

Q: "Who was your best friend during the show?"

Siren Interview

Siren: "I didn't have a 'best friend' among the Glads because we were a team and we all got on. I was friendly with Fox and I asked Vogue, Rebel and Panther hundereds of questions about the show and lift as a Gladiator when I first joined."

Q: "What was your most memorable highlight during your time with Gladiators?"

Siren Interview

Siren: "My most memorable moment during my first series was my first Pendulum. It was the time when I hung by my feet onto the netting. I swung down and grabbed the Contender's flag. I was just so happy at winning the game and was so excited."

Q: "You came into the Gladiators show fairly late into its run, would you have liked to have been with the show from the start? How did you find the filming?"

Siren Interview

Siren: "I think it would have been amazing to have been in the show from the beginning but I'm just happy to have had the chance to be a Gladiator. I loved the filming. One minute I was high as a kite and the next so nervous. During my second series of Gladiators I was able to train more specifically for the games because I knew what to expect. As a result I was fitter and stronger and altogether more confident."

Q: "You were a basketball player before you became Siren on Gladiators. What experience did you have?"

Siren Interview

Siren: "I've played basketball since I was 11 years old. I have 15 caps for Scotland and first played for the national team at age 16. I played for Silver Lake High School for a year when I was 17. This was an American High School and I lived in the States for a year playing basketball. Being a basketball player, as a team sport, it helps me compete in most of the Gladiators games. John Anderson, will tell me to play in a particular game because I'm used to positional sports, whereas most of the others are athletes or gymnasts, which is an individual thing. It definitely helps me in some of the games."

Q: "What happened during your Dogfight performance in the 1998 series?"

Siren Interview

Siren: "In my second year with the show my harness burst on Dogfight. Half of the strap gave way so I was hanging all sideways. I just kept hitting the contender frantically because all I could think was 'set off her button and make her drop before the other shoulder strap gives way and I fall!!!'"

Q: "You also have a University degree don't you?"

Siren Interview

Siren: "Yes, I graduated with a first class honors degree in Quantity Surveying. I worked as a Quantity Surveyor in Hong Kong for a year. I also have a masters degree in Facilities Management."

Q: "Siren, thank you for taking time out to talk to the Gladiators Zone"

Siren Interview

Siren: "Paul, no problem. Thank you."
