QUARTER FINAL 2, SERIES 2 (01/03/09)
MONDAY MARCH 09, 2009
A Goliath sized “Thanks” to Panther for filling in last week whilst I was sunning myself in the Amazon rainforest (well actually a Caribbean beach!!!). It was a great read and well done to the Supercat for deservedly being this week’s female star Glad.
Since my return I’ve been busy getting to work with my Green Gladiator role. Allotments and Wormeries have become a whole lot more familiar to me! Look out for more info about what I’ve been up to!
This week’s episode was, in my opinion, the most entertaining so far. Perhaps it was because I’d been away so not had my ‘Gladiators’ fix, but I genuinely found the show energetic, inspiring and very entertaining.
Quarter-finals time means that both contenders and Gladiators must step up their game, and this was demonstrated beautifully in Hang tough this week. We all know by now that if Siren’s swinging then she’s going to get you, there’s no doubt about that, so the only chance to score points is to hang on for dear life and oh my did Catherine hold on . . . until her lips went blue in fact! That is the first time that I’ve been truly impressed by a female contenders efforts this series. Some would say that she wasted her energy as she wasn’t in the scoring zone, but I would disagree. A display like that shows the Gladiators and the other contenders that you mean business, and that psychological edge is more valuable than 5 points. Siren also demonstrated impressive upper body strength by managing to hold onto Catherine, despite some tentative moments. Wendy, Paul and Justin tried some evasive moves on the rings but could not outsmart the Gladiators and Spartan made a great comeback for a ring spin to take down Paul.
Gauntlet was amazing. There wasn’t a whole lot to comment on the girl’s run except to say that Panther was incredible. It would seem that the Gladiator’s really do read this blog as the boys seem to have taken Panther’s advice and showed a massive improvement in performance. Well done guys.
I love watching Powerball, not as much as I enjoy playing it though. I think it shows that this game is a Gladiator favourite as we get to use our own bodies to stop the contenders. The thing that I find difficult about this event is to wait until the contender leaves their safe-zone before tackling. As soon as they have the ball in their hand, natural instinct takes over telling my body to take them down. Warrior demonstrated that he also experiences these instinct issues.
My Gladiator of the week was the man himself . . . the newly entitled ‘Undisputed, undefeated Suspension bridge champion of the world!” The Big O was sensational in every way, with a calculated attack on Hang Tough, domination in Suspension bridge and just where did that huge smash come from in Gauntlet? He was on his best form ever with his banter too. The ‘Big O Airways’ chat was hilarious and he even incorporated the sky motto ‘Believe in Better’ . . . . Clever O!
Poor Doom, on the other hand, had a dastardly week, it was most certainly not Doom’s day with his trio of misdemeanours. Firstly he was penalised on Gauntlet, then had some balance problems on Suspension bridge and then was not even allowed to seek his vengeance on Powerball after being denied by John Coyle for his earlier outbreak of pushing Justin into the pool. Doom took himself off to a dark room, where I think he may have been conjuring up some dark spells. Watch out for his revenge in the weeks to come!
All 4 contenders ran a great Eliminator. Catherine and Justin were sensational, and at this point of the competition I find it hard to see how anyone will be able to beat them. They are two of the smaller contenders, which proves the theory that “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the fight in the dog”. We’ll find out soon enough if anyone has a bigger bite than these 2!
