QUARTER FINAL 1, SERIES 2 (22/02/09)
TUESDAY MARCH 03, 2009
Hey guys!
Amazon is away on holiday sunning herself no doubt - some people get all the luck, don't they? So Paul has asked if I would step in and fill the void for this week's blog.
So it is the first of the Quarter Finals and it's around this stage of the competition you get a sense of which contenders have what it takes to go on and win the competition and for us Gladiators having been up against them in the heats know a bit more of what they are about and maybe get our own back if they beat us or did something untoward!
Top of the billing is the classic Hang Tough and whilst it's the most graceful and tactical of games at times it can get a little feisty and tonight's is no exception with Cyclone getting a kick every now and then off Yvette! - John Coyle warns Yvette, but she escapes without a DQ to her name. Spartan is up for the boys and is quickly making this one of his very best games if not the best and looks very comfortable up there and even remains calm and composed one ringed for a time before eventually leg locking Dan sending them both into the cold water - yes guys, the water really is cold and now you know the real reason why I don't want to lose on Duel - Ha Ha!
Gauntlet is next and it is one of my faves and whilst I sit and re-watch it the nerves come flooding back! - I am in my usual "First Person" role and my sole aim to not let them pass, it's hard to achieve this aim in the 30 second time the Contenders have, as it's very tiring actually and especially for the second run. A little snippet of information that I know GZ fans will enjoy is that one of the my tactics is to keep the Ram Rod quite low and make contact at the body, rather than the head, as the weapon can easily go over the Contender's head and they can escape, particulary the shorter Contenders and this is maybe something the boys can learn from watching how I do it, as watching them tonight is a prime example of this happening, so come on boys watch and learn, i'll show you how it is done!
With it being the Quarter Finals comes a new twist to the show in the guise of a split event, tonight's split is new games for this series Suspension Bridge for the girls and Rocket Ball for the boys.
Funnily Yvette who doesn't seem to enjoy the combat rough and tumble games does quite well for a time against Siren, but can't quite do enough to get her off the Bridge and it's Siren who comes back wonderfully from being on her knees at one point to eventually overcome Yvette - one must wonder is Yvette is feeling hungury at this point in the show, as it is the third time she has mentioned the word "cookie" Ha Ha!
In the other split it's great game of Rocket Ball from Predator keeping a clean sheet in what is usually a difficult game for the Glads and gains much praise from Dan. Kris makes the most of Oblivion's failingsto score 4 points! - Oblivion then reveals that he has feelings - we all knew you were a big softy really Big O!
The Last event of the show and chance to get points leading into the Eliminator is another of my fave games - it's Powerball! Today I am assigned middle basket position and being honest I would much prefer either of the sides, but I do my best and at one point take down both Steph AND Enigma - but that's what happens when someone gets in my way, no-one is safe when I have a job to do! It ends up being a faultless game for us Gladdies and keep it to non scoring game - well done girls!
It's Eliminator time and my word what an Eliminator we had...
Steph and Yvette versus the DREADED TRAVELATOR!!!
You can hear the crowd's frustraion as they both had multiple attempts - Steph's Dad hitting the railing in front of him after one of Steph's failed attempts. In the end it was too much for Yvette and her body just gave up, you can see in her legs it just isn't there and has to be consoled by the Legend Rebel and male Contender Justin.
In the end Steph scales it and is exhausted at the end - will this take it's toll for the next round?
The boy's Eliminator has no such drama's for Kris, as he is consistent on all the sections and storms up the Travelator for the Semi Final place, leaving Dan to struggle with the Travelator very much the same way the girls did - on his fourth attempt he manages it, but surely won't progress as a fastest loser with that time? Then again this is Gladiators and some very strange unexpected things can and do happen, so you never know!
So that's it for another week of Gladiators, keep tuned in for more of Amazon's fantastic blogs, all that is left for me to say is thanks guys for reading my blog and making me feel welcome on GZ! I hope you enjoy watching it as I did being part of it and may I take this opportunity to say a big "THANK YOU!!!" to everyone who has voted for me on the GZ polls, I have been keeping my eye on them and will continue to do so and anyone who doesn't vote for me will get a Pugil stick to the back of the head like Mel did on the Armed Foces show and now I know you won't want that!
