EPISODE 6, SERIES 2 (08/02/09)

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 13, 2009

So that’s the end of the heats, we’ve seen the potential winners, where would you cast your bets? There were some feisty contenders, some big egos and the very occasional impressive performance (Gladiators aren’t easily impressed).

My highlight of this episode was Qu v Oblivion on Hang Tough. Oblivion did amazingly well, to get himself out of that spin, then catch Qu and get a full leg wrap around him. I don’t know how he managed to slip off, perhaps he overdid it on the moisturiser that day!!! Great comeback with the ‘Walnut Whip’ comment though. The reason that it was my highlight though because of Qu’s premature celebrations and failure to step onto the platform, despite being just inches away . . . .

Qu (celebrating)– “Yeah, come on, yeah”

Audience – “Get to the platform”

Qu – “Yeah, I know I won”

Audience – “No you plonker, get to the platform”

Qu – What?

Audience – “THE PLATFORM!”

Qu – “Oh yeah. . . Platform”

Unlucky Qu!

The competion for Pursuit started well before the cameras were rolling. As Gladiators and contenders were warming up on the equipment it was clear to see that the girls didn’t stand much of a chance against the multi-talented athletes Enigma and Tempest. The boys were psyching each other out with their various innovative monkey bar techniques. It turned out to be a great job done by the Glads. Spartan did extremely well to be so close to catching Paul. Yes Paul was rapid, but Spartan was quicker, as he caught him up by at least 2.9 seconds.

Hit and Run is not a favourite event with most of the Gladiators, as we just throw big balls around. I quite like it though and find that it actually does require a certain amount of skill. To get the timing just right and always ensure that your ball returns to you is not as easy as it may look. However - maybe I’m just biased, as I’ve knocked them off each time so far, wonder how long that statement will remain true? If I ever hit the double again, I promise to repeat the “Running Man’ celebration, and hope fully next time they’ll show my feet!

Paul and Emma gave great demonstrations of how Hit and Run should be done, except for their bad landings. Missing the pool seems to be becoming a trend with the contenders on this event. Mark the trainer practically caught Paul mid-air this week as he did Kelly last week, and Emma had an awful landing as she ‘elbow dropped’ the edge. Luckily all were ok and able to continue unscathed.

Siren and I were a little disappointed about the lack of challenge this week on Pyramid. Prior to filming commencing, we had had our one and only training session on the Pyramid, which had been against each other. That was action-packed great fun and would have made good viewing. Just to clear up any doubt, I didn’t lose my shoe on Sunday’s event, but Vicky pulled it off! Not sure why she did that, but didn’t bother me too much. Well done to Qu for his victory on the Pyramid, though he was very lucky that Doom had an unfortunate slip. Doom proved that he was quicker when the two first raced up opposite sides of the Pyramid.

Well done to Paul and Emma, for joining the quarter finalists. I was disappointed that Qu didn’t make it through, as he was a great contender, with a great hair-do. Could have been a different story had it not been for the Hang Tough error and the fall on Pursuit. But in the end it was ‘Much a Qu Adoo about nothing’!
