Sorry for the delay in getting this weeks blog to you. I didn’t get to see the episode until Wednesday and the suspense crippled me.
Hang tough was exciting this week. The male contenders both had interesting techniques, David wrapping up Tornado and Norris literally pushed Atlas away, both got 5 points though, so perhaps some good notes for any future contenders out there. Cyclone was so graceful on the rings and Tempest so fast. These are two of the nicest Gladiators, it amazes me how they switch into such predators when John’s whistle goes.
The men’s gauntlet was obviously the topic of discussion. Four very disappointed and frustrated Gladiators returned to the green room following the event. Atlas tried to analyse what had happened, while others behaved in a less civilised manner. Sometimes it seems that the Gladiators are sooooo big and the contenders sooooo small, that the difference can almost become an advantage to the contender. I think this was perhaps demonstrated in Suspension bridge too. Suspension bridge is an event where it is essential to drive up and under your opponent, a difficult task in Goliath’s case. Perhaps he will be more suited to the ultimate power event – Duel. Let’s hope we get to find out!!!
Last week’s blog demonstrated my frustrations with regard to the editing that goes on before a show is broadcast, but this week I was thankful for it. The Gladiators never get to hear the contender’s story till after the action is complete, we just see them as the enemy who dare to step on our territory. Yvette was quite angry and aggressive towards the Glads during filming, I’m sure that at one point she called herself a ‘Gladi-hater’ and because of this received some harsh words back from some of the female Glads, including myself. But now, having seen her story and relating to her as a fellow woman, I think that she is so very brave to come on the show, and at the age of 40, to make her son proud. Well done.
