EPISODE 2, SERIES 2 (11/01/09)
THURSDAY JANUARY 15, 2009
Another action packed episode of Gladiators, and ratings for series 2 are soaring, but let’s continue to spread the word about the best show on TV to make sure that it keeps going series after series.
Watching my debut on Sunday was the most nail-biting experience, more nerve wracking than actually doing the event. It’s such a strange thing to see yourself on TV, in lycra, smashing contenders. That said, once I got over the nerves, I thoroughly enjoyed it and was glad of the support of my family and friends. I wish I could play Powerball every day!
The Gauntlet was great too. I thought the girls gave a solid performance, with Panther making a huge Ramrod impact at the front. The guys were not happy with their performance, but in true Gladiator style they held their heads high and went back to the drawing board to come up with some tactics to prevent nippy ‘side-steppers’ and ‘cheating crawlers’ from getting the better of them in the future. It will be interesting to see if they improve for next time! Goliath was like a man possessed, I thought he was going to crush contender John. Back stage I gave him a big hug to help calm him down, he’s a gentle giant really, especially with the girls!
Spartan was my Gladiator of the week, for pure entertainment factor. His leg tangling, shirt-tugging action on Hang Tough, whilst one ringed, was truly impressive. His outburst on Powerball allowed us to see the aggressive side of the honourable soldier and I loved how he managed to wangle his way out of it with his polite, noble demeanor. You go Sparts!!!
Congratulations to Wendy and Simeon, and I wonder what the viewer’s thought of the first ever contender couple, John and Leanne. I thought it was very respectable how they would pick up their battered and bruised bodies after each event to cheer for each other. They both put in a very impressive performance on the wall, John flew up there and Leanne was caught quickly by Cyclone, but held on for dear life. Let me tell you, that requires some serious strength! Perhaps it was hearing their partner’s cheers that gave them that extra determination. I’ve seen Enigma giving a certain male Gladiator some... let’s say FIRM encouragement during training. Needless to say... he was Dooomed!!!
