BATTLE OF THE FORCES, SERIES 2 (15/02/09)

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 20, 2009

Well here’s an episode with a difference. Not only Gladiators v competitors, but three immense armed forces of Great Britain head to head too. Needless to say, the atmosphere was like no other. The Army, Navy and Air Force are so competitive between themselves they hardly need anyone else to spur them on! But maybe a common enemy in the gladiators would help unite them. Either way, the Glads were prepared for a slightly different class of competitor!

We saw Battleaxes’ first performance on Hang Tough - with a 4 stone weight advantage over Claire she had no trouble bringing her down, but Battleaxes’ performance on the rings was so graceful, I wish we could see her up there more often. The boys had a great time on this event, they seemed to relish a good win! Atlas’ underwater pose was loved by the glads, he’d joked about it beforehand and we were so pleased when he executed it so brilliantly. However this was arguably beaten by Spartans flip into the pool on Pursuit – an outstanding winning move.

As I’m sure you noticed everyone seemed to get into the swing of the competition including Wrighty and Caroline! Their outfits seemed to change throughout the evening to have a more military theme, I just hope for their sakes that they returned their steals! Towards the end of the day Ian worried the producers by flinging himself from the top of the pyramid, but luckily was unscathed apart from a slightly un-gladiator like landing! He has so much to learn. I think by the end of the day both Wrighty and Caroline could have been tempted to have a go at the events, what a show that would be!

Panther was definitely one of the stars of the day with the beating she delivered to Melita on Duel. Was she fired up by Melita’s confident jibes before they took to the podiums? Despite the amazing beating from Panther, Melita was the first contender to stay up against her in the series, and to give her her due, she showed some pretty impressive (if evasive) moves.

A huge congratulations to the winners Billy and Claire and what a night for Help the Heroes! £10,000 won for a very worthy cause. Next week is the start of the quarter finals and if the atmosphere is even comparable to todays, then the Glads will have great day on their hands.
