WOLF ROARS AGAIN

FRIDAY AUGUST 29, 2008

Gladiators returns for a second series and Wolf is back. But this time he’s in charge...

Hold on to your foam finger. The second series of Gladiators is about to get bigger, and badder; Wolf is back, and he’s looking for trouble in the Gladiators arena!

Steve Jones, Commissioning Editor, Entertainment, Sky1, Sky2 and Sky3 today (Friday 30 August, 2008) announced that Sky1’s hit family entertainment show Gladiators will return for a second series with a number of exciting twists including; the return of Wolf, a revamped eliminator with a surprise new element, and the recruitment of new Gladiators.

After appearing in Gladiators: The Legends Return (Sun 31 Aug, 8pm, Sky1 and Sky1 HD) Wolf says he rediscovered his hunger for gladiatorial contact and is “ready” for series 2. He will take on an Alex Ferguson-type role as team manager and act as mentor to the Gladiators; offering his pearls of wisdom to the likes of Oblivion, Tornado and Enigma. Wolf will also go face to face with his old nemesis, referee John Anderson, in what are sure to be some of the most explosive encounters in British entertainment television.

Wolf comments: “I was blown away by the buzz I felt competing in the Gladiators arena again. It was like I’d never been away. The audience was explosive and phenomenal and clearly wanted more of the Wolfman. Hearing them chant my name brought back some incredible memories and it all made me realise how much I just had to come back. John Anderson better be on top of his game - the Wolf will be watching his every move!" And in true Wolf style he warned; “The Wolfman is back! WATCH OUT!!"

But who will face the awesome power of the Gladiators? Last series 20,000 people applied, 1200 were selected for trials, 32 entered the arena, 2 emerged victorious. Simon Wray and Anna Miller were crowned Gladiators Champions 2008 but now the search is on for the next group of contenders who are willing to face the Gladiators and compete for the £50,000 prize and title of Gladiators Champion 2009.

To apply to be a contender please visit; http://apply.ukgladiators.com. The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 15th September.

The very best applicants will then be invited to attend contender trials in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff and Glasgow where they will be put through a rigorous and painful series of tests which have been specially designed by referee John Anderson to sort out the wheat from the chaff.

John Anderson comments: "The search is on to find the very best contenders. Out there are men and women who can mix it with the Gladiators. Only the best will survive the contender trials. Those who come through will be the Crème De La Crème and will be physically, psychologically and emotionally ready to do battle".

And in a year of unprecedented Olympic success a team made up of former Olympians will face their biggest challenge yet as they battle with the Gladiators in a special edition of the family entertainment show. The new series will also see a Celebrity special, a Legends special, an Armed Forces special, and a straight head to head between the Gladiators Champions 2008 and Gladiators Champions 2009.

Sky1 will also be announcing a new female co-host shortly.
