American Gladiator Siren was living proof that it is possible to turn a disability into an asset! Siren, in her years as a Gladiator, proved that the only thing she couldn't do was hear.
Siren was not born deaf but became deaf at the age of three after an aspirin overdose. She was diagnosed with profound hearing loss in the sixth grade after trying to hide it for years. Siren attended Western Oregon State College and graduated with a degree in psychology and special education. Siren was initially cast as a replacement Gladiator but was pressed into service after Gladiator Lace (Natalie Lennox) left the show. Siren excelled in her ground games, often driving Contenders roughly to the ground. She was a master at Tug-O-War, largely in part due to competing on the America's Cup. Siren was also extremely good in Hang Tough, having an amazing, near perfect record.
Siren married John Romano, her trainer, during her career on AG. Currently, she still competes in bodybuilding competitions, speaks out for deaf rights and has produced a clothing line of which she donated the profits to the American Athletic Association for the Deaf. She also speaks out in support of people with bipolar disorder, something she herself battles.
Siren sadly passed away on the February 16th 2008. She will always be a true Gladiator.
Sky began her Gladiators career during the Live Tour known as Athena. She proved to be a hit especially in events such as Powerball and Joust. Sky is the tallest female Gladiator in the world and represented America in the International Gladiators series. She stayed with the show until the very end.
Storm entered the Gladiator Arena in 1991, and used her background in personal training to bring down the Contenders in her favourite Event Powerball. The former member of the Southern California Cheetahs loved the adrenaline rush of being an American Gladiator and jumped at the chance to compete in the Live Tour.
Sunny was a Gladiator for only the first half of season one, and was tagged 'The All American Woman'. She was a natural with a pugil stick, making the female contenders work for their prizes. Her Gladiator career was shortlived due to injury but she will always remain as one of the fan favourites.
Tigra was recruited to the Gladiator ranks for the Orlando Live shows between 1996 and 1998. Tigra twisted her knee in Powerball during her first and only outing. This injury kept her away from the Gladiators Arena.
Zap was the first Gladiator chosen for the American team, giving her the title of the first ever TV Gladiator. She excelled in all Events including her favourite Assualt. Zap is also a film star with her best-known role being that of an arm-twisting seductress in 'Skin Deep' leading her to appear several times in Playboy.
