HIT & RUN
OBJECTIVE
The Contender has to try and run across a 7.3 metres long Suspension Bridge which is raised 3.7 metres in the air. On either side of the Suspension Bridge are two platforms with two Gladiators on each. Each Gladiator is controlling a 1.2 metres diameter Demolition Ball which is suspended from the arena ceiling and acts as a pendulum as they are swung across the bridge, in an attempt to remove the Contender from the bridge. The Contender has to successfully cross the bridge and touch the back handrail as many times as possible within the time limit, without being knocked to the safety mats below.
FACTS
Hit & Run was road tested in the 1994 Wembley Live shows although it was initially named Demolition Run.
The Gladiators wore protective helmets in the Wembley Live shows and during 1994 (Series 3), but these were not worn from 1995 (Series 4) onwards due to it being a relatively safe event for the Gladiators.
In the 1997 Celebrity Special, Rio played along with 3 male Gladiators, this was the only time male and female Gladiators were mixed on an event.
A Contender loss in this event would be accompanied by 'Another One Bites The Dust' by Queen.
